Pistons sign McGrady to 1-year deal

After speculation and some back and forth on whether a contract was offered, the Detroit Pistons have officially signed free agent Tracy McGrady to a one-year, $1.35 million contract.

The most crowded positions on the Pistons’ squad are the shooting guard and small forward spots — both positions McGrady plays. So does this signing mean a deal is imminent or does it mean Joe Dumars is looking several steps ahead, when a deal might happen?

Hard to complain about signing a player like McGrady for a song, but there is only one basketball to go around and Richard Hamilton, Ben Gordon, Charlie Villanueva, Tayshaun Prince and Rodney Stuckey are all going to want their shots. One or more player certainly is going to have to be playing in a different uniform at some point.
