- News broke Friday afternoon, via Keith Langlois of Pistons.com, that Detroit Piston F/C Josh Harrellson has suffered a slight tear in his meniscus in his left knee MRI reveals.

The injury comes as somewhat of a surprise as there was no news about any injury to Harrellson prior to Monday night’s game with the defending NBA Champion Miami Heat earlier this week.

Prior to the news breaking Friday afternoon, Josh Harrellson was listed as “Day-to-Day” with a leg injury during the last two Piston games.

Langlois: “Josh Harrellson with a small meniscus tear in left knee. Missed last 2. Hurt himself in last Saturday’s win. Rest and rehab for now.”

Harrellson has been one of the few bright spots for Detroit, becoming one of the few options at the stretch four position, as the struggles for forwards Jonas Jerebko, Gigi Datome, and Charlie Villanueva continue.

“Big Jorts” as he is known around the league has played some quality basketball off the pine in the minutes he has played. Harrellson is averaging 2.9 points per game, 2.4 rebounds, shooting 71 percent from the stripe, and almost 39 percent from downtown, as he became a nice “pick-and-pop” option for Piston Point Guard Brandon Jennings in the 9.9 minutes he averages on the year.

David Mayo of Mlive.com elaborated on the timetable for Harrellson: “MRI on Pistons Josh Harrellson shows small meniscus tear in left knee, rest and rehab, reevaluation after All-Star break.”

With “Big Jorts” out at least until after the All-Star break, Piston Head Coach Maurice Cheeks will have to find someone to fill Harrellson’s spot in the rotation.

As of late, that has been Jonas Jerebko, he was the one and only stretch four off the bench for Cheeks down in Florida. Jerebko has struggled over the last two games and with Cheeks short rope for his bench, Datome or Villanueva may get a look sometime soon.
